Step back to 1940s at wartime weekend

A step back in time to the era of big bands, World War Two and ration books can be enjoyed at Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens this weekend.

The historic Spalding venue is hosting a 1940s Weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

Jointly organised by South Holland District Council and Spalding Remembrance Association, the nostalgic annual event has previously attracted over 2,000 visitors and another big turnout is expected.

This year’s event will feature memorabilia displays, re-enactments, demonstrations, stalls, period vehicles, and on the Saturday live music and a spectacular BBMF fly-past will take place.

On Sunday, the event will culminate with the annual VJ Day parade, when the Spalding Remembrance Association pays tribute to those who gave their lives in the conflict.

Coun Gary Taylor, portfolio holder for community, said: “The 1940s Weekend always proves popular and attracts people of all ages from across the district.

“I’m sure this year’s event will once again provide two days of fun-filled activities and also give people a chance to remember those who fought in the war.”

The event takes place between 10.30am and 4pm on both days and admission is free.
