Part of Pinchbeck Road during the closure

UPDATE: Work on reopened Spalding’s Pinchbeck Road not yet complete

Spalding’s Pinchbeck Road has reopened to motorists earlier than expected but a large dip remains in the surface.

The most recent emergency closure, for Anglian Water works to repair a collapsed sewer and the road surface outside Taylors Vauxhall garage, was expected to last a month but the road reopened on Monday after two weeks.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “The sewer and the road surface has been repaired and the road has been reopened.”

A highways “ramp” sign remains in place in the direction of the town centre close to Kings Road – in the area Lincolnshire County Council was carrying out repairs during a previous five-day closure last month.

Anglian Water says the remaining dip appears to be related to “ground movement” and the sewer has been checked and is working correctly.

On Wednesday (June 14), a spokesperson said: “We will be coming out to carry out the reinstatement of the road before the end of Monday, June 19.

“We are unable to complete a permanent reinstatement immediately after work is completed as we need time for the ground to settle. We will be back as soon as possible before Monday is completed to make sure the full width of the road is reinstated.”

  1. Well done Anglian Water. Nice to see something being completed ahead of schedule for a change. Hang on a moment though. The sewers have been checked and are working properly but there is still a dip in the road?

Presumably the road surface belongs to some other authority and we can look forward to the remaining unused two weeks being taken up by them when they decide to remedy the situation in the future.

Would it not have been more sensible to take the full four weeks and fix the road properly even if that meant passing a bill on to the Highways Authority on completion?
