STROLLING TO SUCCCESS: Spalding enjoyed a few wins.

Spalding walkers’ mixed bag of results against Wisbech Spitfires

Spalding and District Walking Football Club picked up three wins as they took on Wisbech Spitfires at Glen Park, Surfleet.

They had a superb start to the first game scoring twice within the first few minutes but were quickly pegged back by the visitors, who went on to score four rapid goals.

A late third goal from Spalding led to a tense final couple of minutes but they could not find an equaliser and went down 4-3.

In the second match, Spalding once again took the lead early on, scoring two cracking goals from the edge of the area.

The Spitfires pulled one back but Spalding pressured and scored a spectacular team goal to secure a 3-1 win.

After a short break and some half time oranges, Wisbech came back with a vengeance beating Spalding 5-1.

A team talk from coach Holly Barrett from Give It Some Fizz inspired the teams to go on the offensive in the final three games.

It led to another early double for Spalding with a couple of great finishes but Wisbech fired back to level.

Then, in the final moments, Spalding belted in the winner for a 3-2 win.

The home team dominated possession and took their shooting opportunities in the final two games while Wisbech were kept at bay by some fantastic goalkeeping. It resulted in two further wins for Spalding and District 3-1 and 2-0 respectively.

Coach Barrett said: “The team have really enjoyed the opportunity to showcase their growing skills against very experienced opposition. It has been excellent for all of our players to have a chance to play again in a fun and friendly atmosphere with Wisbech and we look forward to our next set of fixtures.”

Men and women aged 30 to 85 of all abilities can take part.

Training sessions are held at Glen Park on Mondays at 5.45pm and Thursday (9.30am) at Monkshouse Lane Park, Spalding.
