Spalding carer raises cash for Sense client

A kind hearted carer has raised cash to help a young man who loves to stand in the sunshine.

Matt Rogers works for the charity Sense and one of the people he supports has severe epilepsy.

“He can have a number of drop seizures a day, he loves to stand in the sunshine in the garden but it is not suitable for him as it has concrete slabs and if he was to fall, it could really damage him,” said Mr Rogers.

“When we take him out in the garden he likes to stand in the sun and sway, he is so happy,” he added.
But staff have to hold the man’s hands in case he falls and they put beanbags around him to protect him.

“It stops him from moving, if he wants to walk we have to move them. This is not
ideal for him,” he said.

So Mr Rogers, his wife Lisa and daughter Chloe held a fundraising charity stall and tombola earlier this month to raise money towards proper safety-matting.

Mr Rogers gave out a number of posters and appealed for prizes to help the cause.

“I was so amazed at the generosity of the shops in giving us prizes. My wife works at Bakkavor and they kindly donated £100,” he said.

The family raised a total of £341.91 on the day.

“I would like to thank everyone who donated and everyone who came to the stall. Especially Lisa and Chloe, my manager Sam Wheatley and area manager Vanessa Hart,” said Mr Rogers.
