SLBL cricket round-up: Broomfield’s brilliant ton in vain for Moulton Harrox

The rain denied Moulton Harrox a landslide victory on Saturday as a sensational 112 from Joe Broomfield set the tone for a brilliant all-round performance.

Harrox cracked 265-6 from their 45 overs at Billingborough 2nd in South Lincs and Border League Division One, before reducing their hosts to 16-7 in reply.

However the rain came and saved the day for Boro’, with Moulton forced to settle for 16 points as consolation.

Despite losing Karl Hibbert for just three early on, the rest of Moulton’s top order fired.

Skipper Broomfield did, however, steal the show with a century that included 15 fours.

Matt Barnett (42), Andy Goodley (32) and Will Naylor (38 not out) also impressed, while Lewis Peak (18 not out) added some late runs to top up the target.

If their batting was impressive, Harrox’s bowling was even better.

Naylor (5-3) and Louis Greetham (2-11) ripped through the home order to leave them toiling at 16-7 after 11 overs.

Indeed, Boro’ can consider themselves fortunate to pick up 11 points thanks to the rain.

  • Spalding 2nd suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Sleaford 2nd at the Memorial Field on Saturday.
