Saturday football: Tulips dumped out of FA Trophy, Tigers on-song and Pinchbeck denied at death

Spalding United suffered a bitterly disappointing FA Trophy exit on Saturday as they lost 5-1 at ten-man Chasetown, while in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division Holbeach United enjoyed a fine 3-1 win over Rugby Town and Pinchbeck United drew 2-2 at ON Chenecks.

Starting with the Tulips, they made a great start in the Extra Preliminary Round clash and went ahead on 11 minutes when Joel Brownhill netted from the penalty spot after George Zuerner was fouled.

Joe Brown levelled for the hosts ten minutes later, but was then sent off for a second bookable offence to give Spalding a massive advantage.

However, that only served to inspire Chasetown and they went ahead just before the break when Dan Cocks’ free-kick hit the bar and Liam Kirton turned home the rebound.

It was 3-1 early in the second period when Kirton doubled his money, before the same player wrapped up the win with his hat-trick strike with around 20 minutes left to play.

Keiran Brown, on for Kirton, rounded off the rout in the final minute to complete a miserable day for the Tulips, who will hope to bounce back at home to Belper Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Holbeach, meanwhile, went ahead on the half hour through Jonny Lockie, but were pegged back by Jazz Luckie’s strike five minutes before the break.

That gave Danny Hussey’s Tigers a shot in the arm and Liam Adams’ doubled (44 and 45) gave them a 3-1 lead at the break.

They held on to that advantage in the second period, with Rugby having Lewis Hayden – who was earlier sin-binned – sent off for a second yellow.

The win sees Holbeach climb back up to fourth place in the table.

Fellow UCL Premier Division side Pinchbeck blew a 2-0 half-time lead at ON Chenecks as they were forced to settle for a point.

Aaron Eyett (8) opened the scoring and then Ollie Maltby’s effort (21) looked to have Ian Dunn’s side in a strong position for a much-needed win.

But goals om 48 and 90 minutes pegged them back and they fall into the bottom three as a result.

More on all games to follow.
