Saturday football: Tigers roar in FA Cup, Pinchbeck leave it late to bag first UCL win

Holbeach United won 2-0 at Ely City to progress in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United left it late to see off Long Buckby 2-1 and secure a first-ever ChromaSport UCL Division One victory.

Starting with the Tigers, late efforts from strikers Charley Sanders (pen 81) and Will Bird (87) gave boss Seb Hayes his maiden success as a manager in the FA Cup.

Holbeach will now host UCL rivals ON Chenecks in the next stage.

However, their trip to Boston Town on Tuesday night has been postponed due to the Poachers needing to play a replay with Radford after the pair drew 2-2.

Meanwhile, player/boss Ian Dunn headed a dramatic late winner for Pinchbeck at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

The Knights, in what was their first home game at step six, went ahead through Liam Ogden on 51 minutes.

They were by far the better side and should have extended their lead before being pegged back by a deflected Charlie Merrey free kick five minutes from time.

However, Dunn met an Andrew Tidswell free kick at the back post with 88 minutes on the clock to clinch the points and send his side top of the embryonic table.

In the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division, Moulton Harrox are also top after seeing off last season’s champions Peterborough Sports 2-1 at Broad Lane.

However, promoted Sutton Bridge United lost 3-1 at Stanground Sports and Holbeach United Reserves slipped up 3-0 at home to much-fancied ICA Sports.

Down in Division One, relegated Crowland Town began life at their new level with a 4-0 win over Oakham Reserves, but Long Sutton Athletic went down 3-1 at home to Peterborough Polonia.

Elsewhere, Spalding United lost their final pre-season fixture of the summer 3-1 at higher-graded Halesowen Town.

The Tulips also discovered that they will face a trip to UCL Premier Division neighbours Wisbech Town in the next round of the FA Cup.
