Saturday football: Tigers back on-song, Tulips suffer late heartbreak and Pinchbeck lose again

Holbeach United got back to winning ways by seeing off Northampton ON Chenecks 2-0 on Saturday, while Spalding United went down 1-0 at home against Tadcaster Albion and Pinchbeck United slipped up 2-0 at Oadby Town.

Starting with Holbeach, goals from Jamie Stevens and Luke Avis earned them all three points at Carter’s Park.

The victory sends Seb Hayes’ Tigers up to fourth place in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division, but they are eight points off second place and 15 behind leaders Daventry Town.

That puts them ahead of Pinchbeck on goal difference, following the Knights’ third league loss on the trot.

Goals from Tom Mangan and James Ireland gave hosts Oadby a 2-0 triumph and demoted Pinchbeck down to seventh spot – their lowest placing this season.

Meanwhile, Spalding slipped back into the bottom three of Evo-Stik NPL Division One East after their third defeat on the spin.

A last-gasp Chris Howey goal gave high-flying Tadcaster all three points in an otherwise drab affair at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Down in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division, Moulton Harrox got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at Oakham United.

Also victorious were Sutton Bridge United, who handed hosts Peterborough Polonia a 4-2 reverse.

However, Holbeach United Reserves went down 1-0 at Thorney, while Tydd drew 1-1 at home to Whittlesey Athletic and Long Sutton Athletic lost 3-2 at home against Ketton.

More to follow in Thursday’s Spalding Voice.
