Saturday football: Ten-man Tigers stun Pagnell, depleted Pinchbeck win again, Tulips lose on final day

Holbeach United and Pinchbeck United both picked up impressive wins on Saturday, while Spalding United closed out their season with a derby defeat.

Starting with Holbeach, they produced a stirring showing to defeat title-chasing Newport Pagnell Town 2-1 in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division.

Charley Sanders (5) fired the Tigers ahead early on at Carter’s Park, but was sent off after just 14 minutes to leave Seb Hayes’ side with an uphill battle to hold on for the win.

That task got even harder when Dave Baker levelled on 65 minutes, but Holbeach held firm and grabbed a dramatic winner through Mitch Griffiths two minutes from time.

Completing the double over Pagnell is no mean feat for the Tigers – and the result now makes it a two-way battle between Yaxley and Wisbech Town for the title.

In UCL Division One, champions Pinchbeck extended their unbeaten run to 27 games with a superb 2-1 win at Lutterworth Town.

Travelling with a severely depleted squad, the omens didn’t look good for the Knights when they fell behind early on.

But goals from top scorer Ollie Maltby and veteran player/boss Ian Dunn, who was playing in midfield, secured a fantastic three points.

That result also ensured that Potton United finish second in the table. They will join Pinchbeck in the UCL Premier Division next season.

In Evo-Stik NPL First Division South, Spalding United suffered a 1-0 derby defeat at Lincoln United on the final day of their season.

A late goal from Phil Watt (79) settled an otherwise close contest, which means Chris Rawlinson’s Tulips finish the season in 13th place.

Meanwhile, Moulton Harrox lifted the Lincs FA Junior Cup for a fifth time on Friday night as they beat Coningsby 5-1 in a one-sided final.

Goals from Joe Townsend (2), Declan Earth, Ashley Coddington and man-of-the-match Billy King sealed the win for Harrox, who did have sub Bobby Patterson sent off.

In the ChromaSport PDFL on Saturday, Division One champions Moulton Harrox Reserves completed their league season with a routine 6-1 win over Kings Cliffe.

Promoted duo Tydd St Mary and Long Sutton Athletic rounded off their campaigns with defeats, however.

The Saints were thrashed 5-2 at Ramsey Town, while Sutton lost a nine-goal thriller 5-4 at Stamford Belvedere.
