Saturday football: Stalemate for Tulips in derby, Tigers hammered by rivals and Pinchbeck beaten at home

Spalding United were held to a 0-0 draw at Wisbech Town in the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division on Saturday, while in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North Holbeach United were humbled 5-0 at home by Selston and Pinchbeck United went down 2-0 against Leicester Nirvana.

Starting with the Tulips, they remain ten points off the play-offs following a stalemate at struggling Wisbech, but moved up to eighth in the table.

Boss Gaby Zakuani handed debuts to new signings Ethan Bojang and Emmanuel Fernandez, who both joined on loan from Peterborough United on Friday.

Fellow recruit Ben Starkie, who has signed from Shepshed Dynamo, was also in the starting 11.

But they were unable to inspire the Tulips, who are now five games without a win in all competitions.

It was a day to forget for Holbeach, meanwhile, as they were beaten 5-0 at home by a Selston side that are one of their chief relegation rivals.

A shocking first half saw Gary Frost’s side fall 4-0 behind thanks to goals from Jordan Black (2), Jay Cooper and Ollie Grimshaw.

Cooper added another after the break to round off the scoring at Carter’s Park, leaving the Tigers bottom of the table, winless in 13 league games and with just three goals to their name in that time.

To make matters worse, captain Nick Jackson has crossed the South Holland divide to join Pinchbeck United and key midfielder Tyler Wright has joined rivals Sleaford Town.

Jackson started for Pinchbeck in their 2-0 loss to Leicester Nirvana at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, which saw them fall to 16th in the table – just one place and three points clear of Quorn, who are in turn four points ahead of Holbeach.

Lewis Thorogood’s side are also badly out of form, having not won since early September.

Down in the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox suffered a 4-2 defeat at Oakham United as they slipped down to sixth in the table and 11 points off the lead.

Holbeach United Reserves are still third but lost ground in the title race after a 1-0 loss at leaders Uppingham Town.

At the other end of the table, Long Sutton Athletic suffered a 7-0 defeat at Netherton United to stay at the foot.
