Saturday football round-up: Derby dismay for Holbeach but Pinchbeck and Moulton both bag 1-0 wins

Holbeach United suffered a 4-3 derby defeat against Boston Town at Carter’s Park on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United and Moulton Harrox both picked up wins.

Starting in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division, Holbeach saw their five-game unbeaten run ended by a late Danny Maddison penalty at Carter’s Park.

Boston Town, 20th at the start of play, went ahead when Maddison’s 18th-minute free kick evaded everyone and found the net.

Mitch Griffiths’ 25th-minute cross was headed home by a Town defender to level the scores up, but two strikes from Jordan Nuttell (28 and 37) put the Poachers 3-1 up at the interval.

Sub Josh Ford reduced the arrears on 73 minutes following another Griffiths assist, then Dan Dougill nodded home a corner (82) to level things up at 3-3.

However, there was a sting in the tail for the Tigers as Maddison converted a penalty three minutes from time and Callum Madigan was later sent off to make it a miserable derby day for Seb Hayes’ side.

They now visit Wisbech Town on Monday (3pm) as they bid to claim a top six finish.

In Evo-Stik NPL First Division South, Spalding United lost 1-0 at home to Bedworth United but still sealed a play-off place. For the full report from that game, click here.

Down in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division, another Ollie Maltby strike – his 58th of the season – gave Pinchbeck United a 1-0 win at Langtoft United.

They are fourth in the table in what is a three-way tie behind leaders Peterborough Sports Reserves.

Moulton Harrox are one of those three sides (in second but having played a game more) after they earned a fine 1-0 win over in-form Stamford Lions at Broad Lane.

Elsewhere in the PDFL’s top tier, Crowland Town lost 3-1 at Netherton United – who are in a South Holland sandwich in third.

In Division One, leaders Moulton Harrox Reserves took a 5-0 pasting at Whittlesey Reserves and are now just nine points clear of second-placed Sutton Bridge United, who won 2-0 at Glinton and Northborough.

Long Sutton Athletic, meanwhile, won 6-0 at Riverside and Spalding United Reserves went down 3-2 at Netherton United Reserves.
