Saturday football: Late heartbreak for Tulips, Pinchbeck smash six to go top, Tigers roar to victory

Spalding United are still seeking their first win of the Evo-Stik NPL Division One East season after going down 2-1 at Frickley Athletic on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United went top of the Future Lions UCL Premier Division with a 6-0 victory over Whitworth and Holbeach United were 2-0 winners at Desborough Town.

Starting with the Tulips, they looked set to end their ten-game wait for a league victory when Luke White fired them ahead on 61 minutes.

But two late strikes from sub Lewis Szanto (82 and 89) gave Frickley all three points and leave Matt Easton’s side 19th in the table and winless after 11 games.

In stark contrast, Pinchbeck extended their unbeaten league run to a whopping 36 games by thrashing struggling Whitworth 6-0 at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

A first-half hat-trick from debutant Ewan Fieldhouse, signed on loan from Yaxley, plus goals from Josh Smith, Ollie Maltby and Liam Ogden, secured an emphatic win for Ian Dunn’s side.

With Daventry Town losing 2-1 at home to Eynesbury, the Knights are now a point clear of them at the top of the table.

Four points behind the leaders are third-placed Holbeach, who shrugged off their Desborough hoodoo to win 2-0 at Waterworks Field.

Strikes from Will Bird and Jonny Clay got the job done for Seb Hayes’ side, who have now won four games on the spin.

Meanwhile, Moulton Harrox won the big ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division game of the day 3-1 against Netherton United.

Mark Baines fired the champions ahead at Broad Lane, but Danny Maddison (penalty), Marcus Parry and Declan Earth did the business for Nev Nottingham’s side.

The win keeps Harrox seven points clear of Thorney at the top of the table.

Holbeach United Reserves are fourth after a 2-2 draw with Langtoft United, with Louis Steadman and Callum Simmonds (penalty) netting.

Also in the top flight, Sutton Bridge United picked up a 2-1 derby win over Tydd at Memorial Park.
