Saturday football: Five-star Tigers are alright Jack, Pinchbeck held in six-goal thriller and Tulips hold leaders

Jack Smith hit a hat-trick as Holbeach United romped to a 5-0 win at Rothwell Corinthians on Saturday, while Spalding United earned a fine 1-1 draw at table-toppers Ossett United in Matt Easton’s first game as permanent manager and Pinchbeck United drew 3-3 with Desborough Town.

Starting with the Tigers, they picked up their best away win of the Future Lions UCL Premier Division season so far at Seargents Lawn.

Smith’s treble was the obvious highlight, but strike partner Josh Ford also got in the act with a double of his own to fire Seb Hayes’ side up to fifth in the table.

Staying in the UCL’s top flight, Pinchbeck United were held to a thrilling draw by Desborough at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Aidan Bradshaw gave Ar Tarn a fourth-minute lead, but strikes from Fraser Bayliss (10) and Andrew Tidswell (26) put Pinchbeck into a 2-1 half time lead.

Jason Turner’s penalty on the hour levelled matters once again, but Ollie Maltby gave the Knights a 3-2 lead with a penalty of his own.

There was still time for Jordan Henson to level (78) for Desborough, while the returning Tony Edwards was sent off for Pinchbeck late on.

The draw makes it 34 UCL games unbeaten for Ian Dunn’s side, who remain second in the table.

Meanwhile, a second-half penalty from Leon Mettam ensured that Spalding held Evo-Stik NPL East Division leaders Ossett 1-1.

The Tulips were 1-0 down at half time after an Adam Priestley effort, but Mettam’s spot-kick early in the second half ensured that the spoils were shared.

It’s now an amazing six draws from seven games for the Tulips, who are still the only side in the league without a win.

But new boss Easton will be very happy with a point from the trip to West Yorkshire, as Ossett slipped to third.

In the ChromaSport PDFL it was the PFA Senior Cup which took centre stage – and Moulton Harrox were involved in a classic contest.

They drew 4-4 with Peterborough Sports Development at Broad Lane, winning 3-1 on penalties after extra time.

Their goals came from Dalius Kisla (30), Marcus Parry (60) and Joe Towsend (95 and 113), as they led 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3 on the day before eventually sealing their place in the next round.

Also through are Holbeach United Reserves, who 1-0 winners at Langtoft United.

But South Holland trio Long Sutton Athletic, Tydd and Sutton bridge United are all out.

The Magpies were beaten 3-1 at Ketton, while Tydd went down 3-0 at Netherton United and Bridge were handed a 3-1 home reverse by Whittlesey Athletic.

Down in Division One, there were big wins for Crowland Town and Spalding Town, who saw off Wittering Harriers (5-2) and Kings Cliffe (7-1) respectively.
