Saturday football: Billy’s winner makes it seven-up for Holbeach United, but Pinchbeck United frustrated by draw with strugglers

Holbeach United made it seven Future Lions UCL Premier Division wins on the spin by seeing of Peterborough Northern Star 2-1 on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United were held to a 1-1 draw at lowly Kirby Muxloe.

Starting with the Tigers, Josh Ford fired them into a 20th-minute lead direct from a free-kick at the Branch Bros Stadium to ensure a 1-0 half-time lead.

Sam Wilson hauled Star level just after the break, but Billy Smith – who enjoyed a decent spell with the city side earlier in his career – grabbed the winner for Danny Hussey’s side within 60 seconds of the restart.

Holbeach’s seventh league win on the bounce sees them move six points clear in fourth place.

That’s after fifth-placed Pinchbeck failed to beat second-from-bottom Kirby Muxloe at Ratby Lane.

The home side went into a surprise 13th-minute lead, but the recalled Tony Edwards levelled on the half-hour when he met Lee Beeson’s  cross at the back post.

Harry Vince, Ollie Maltby and the returning Jordan Nuttell all had chances to scorer a winner in the last ten minutes, but Pinchbeck were left frustrated in what was Kirby Muxloe’s first league draw of the season.

The Knights will hope to get back to winning ways at Peterborough Northern Star in the semi-final of the Hinchingbrooke Cup on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Luke Nicholson, John Smith and Jordan Keeble (pen) earned Holbeach United Reserves a 3-1 derby win over Sutton Bridge United in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division.
