Saturday football: Amazing away wins for Spalding United and Holbeach United

Spalding United and Holbeach United enjoyed impressive away wins on Saturday as they both continued their excellent recent form.

Starting with Spalding, they followed up Thursday night’s emphatic 8-1 win at Gresley with an arguably even better 3-2 success at high-flying Bedworth United.

No shock looked to be on the cards when Kyle Minto put the promtion-chasing hosts ahead on 24 minutes.

However, Ben Davison (32) and Danny Brooks (pen 38) both struck in quick succession to put Chris Rawlinson’s side 2-1 up at the break.

Things got even better when Jonny Lockie, who is enjoying his best run in a Spalding shirt, fired home a third on 63 minutes.

That rendered Alex Troke’s 90th-minute penalty as scant consolation for the hosts.

The Tulips, who are back in action at Peterborough Sports on Monday (7.45pm), move up to 12th in the table as a result.

Holbeach, meanwhile, went second in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division with a 2-1 win at Daventry Town.

After a goalless first period, Spencer Tinkler headed Seb Hayes’ charges ahead on 68 minutes – but Daventry levelled within three minutes through Adam Creaney.

The Tigers refused to settle for a point, though, and duly grabbed a winner eight minutes from time thanks to George Zuerner.

The victory leaves Holbeach three points behind leaders Yaxley, while third-placed Newport Pagnell are just a point further back with two games in hand.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox battled to a 1-0 win at Thorney to stay second in the Premier Division.

Holbeach United Reserves also won 3-0 at Sawtry.
