Saturday football: Amazing Alvechurch win for Tulips, but Tigers are defeated at Desborough

Spalding United picked up an incredible 2-1 win at Alvechurch on Saturday to all but secure their future in Evo-Stik NPL First Division South, while Holbeach United’s hopes of winning the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division title took a huge hit as they went down 3-1 at Desborough Town.

Starting with the Tulips, a double from Ben Davison (20 and 68) earned Chris Rawlinson’s side one of their best results of the campaign so far.

Ashley Carter (46) did level for high-flying Church early in the second half, but the same player was later sent off 15 minutes from time.

The win moves Spalding up to 13th in the table on 39 points – one shy of the magic 40 point mark.

Meanwhile, Holbeach’s loss at Desborough leaves them with plenty of work to do if they are to get back into the UCL title mix.

A Lewis Leckie goal was all the Tigers had to show for their efforts at Waterworks Field, as boss Seb Hayes lost at his bogey ground again.

The defeat leaves Holbeach fifth, nine points off top spot with just two games in hand.

Meanwhile, UCL Division One leaders Pinchbeck United were left frustrated after seeing their game at Thrapston Town postponed.

The hosts were unable to raise a team and the match was called off on Friday night.

Down in the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox enjoyed a fine 1-0 win at Premier Division title rivals Stamford Lions.

However, Sutton Bridge United were thumped 5-1 at Thorney and Holbeach United Reserves were humbled 6-0 at home by leaders Netherton United.
