Peppermint Junction during construction.

Roadworks to cause A17 Holbeach junction delay

Drivers are being warned that a busy junction on the A17 will be closed overnight for three weeks.

A major project is currently under way at The Peppermint Junction at Holbeach.

The series of night closures are due to start tomorrow (Thursday, November 2) to allow contractors to lay tarmac.

The road will be closed from 7pm to 6am from Monday to Friday and a diversion route will be in place.

The A151 will be open to local traffic but there will be no access to the A17 from the A151 during the closures.

“With just over four months of construction work left, the project is still on target to be fully complete in February 2018. Surfacing works and other improvements are steadily continuing forward towards replacing the current T-junction.

“Due to the nature of the works during November, there will inevitably be some temporary disruptions.

“We ask for your patience as any short-term inconvenience will be greatly outweighed by the long-term benefits this scheme will bring,” said Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways at Lincolnshire County Council.

The £5.4m Peppermint Junction highway improvements scheme is part-funded by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Growth Fund.

The old junction is being replaced with a roundabout and a second will provide access to housing and commercial development for the South Lincolnshire Food Enterprise Zone and housing developments.

The scheme will also see close of vehicular access between Northon’s Lane and the A151 to stop the route becoming a rat-run.

There could also be delays from November 13 to December 22 for resurfacing of the A17 at Washway Road, Holbeach/Fleet Hargate.

The work will be taking place between Hurn Road and Low Gate.

Meanwhile the Tydd Gote Bridge on the A1101 will have traffic lights until December 1 while Cambridgeshire County Council carries out bridge repairs.
