IN-FORM: Ansar Hussain.

Red-hot duo fire Moulton Harrox to maiden victory of SLBL Division One season

Impressive knocks from Jack Barnett and Ansar Hussain helped Moulton Harrox record their first South Lincs and Border League Division One win of the season on Saturday.

Harrox eased to a 149-run triumph over hosts Heckington, having posted an imposing 224-4 batting first.

Despite losing Steven Rushworth (9) and Louis Greetham (3) early on – both run out by Harry Maplethorpe – a huge partnership between Barnett and Hussain steered Harrox to a big tally.

Barnett, who has scored a huge amount of runs for Harrox over the years, chipped in with a super 77 before being dismissed by Guy Gibson (1-49).

His partner Hussain, signed from Spalding Town over the summer, fared even better with a fine 88. He was snared 12 runs shy of a century by Will Harris (1-12) as the pair dominated the innings.

Simon Juckes, the former Spalding Town skipper, weighed in with an unbeaten 14 alongside Lewis Peak (9 not out) as Harrox powered past 200 in the final overs.

That was easily enough to keep hosts Heckington at bay, as they slumped to 75 all out in 22.3 overs.

Harris (20) was the only player to make an impression with the bat, while Harrox spread the wickets out nicely.

Carl Lamming (2-22), Alin Carter (2-13) and Juckes (2-4) all took two apiece, while Nohman Jarral (1-12), Louis Greetham (1-5) and Peak (1-13) also got in on the act.

Harrox are without a game this weekend, but are back in action against Graves Park (home) on May 19.

  • A fine bowling display from Will Naylor couldn’t stop Long Sutton 2nd losing at Freiston on Saturday.

Naylor took 6-24 to help bowl the hosts out for 87 in 33.1 overs, but Sutton fell ten runs short in the South Lincs and Border League Division Two clash.

As well as Naylor’s heroics, James Baker (2-20) and Ethan English (2-17) also chipped in to make skipper Calvin Bird’s decision to bowl first look like the right one.

However, only Aaron John (18), Naylor (10) and Bird (13) scored double figures as Sutton slumped to 71 all out in reply.

Sutton 2nd are back in action at Billingborough 2nd on Saturday (1pm).
