Rawlinson praises positive Spalding United supporters and vows to end losing streak

Thankful boss Chris Rawlinson has praised the atmosphere generated by Spalding United’s fans during last weekend’s defeat to Alvechurch – and has vowed they’ll see his side win again soon.

The Tulips are on a run of six defeats on the bounce, which coincided with a mini player exodus due to budget cuts.

But, with the squad now settled and the vibe around the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field now much-improved, Rawlinson is confident that results will come.

He said: “There was a bit of talk about negativity from a handful for fans a few weeks back. But I’d just like to say how brilliant they were on Saturday.

“They were incredibly positive and we all appreciated it.

“If they can stay with us and remain patient, they’ll see us winning football games again soon.

“I’m very confident that we’ll start getting results if we show the same work-rate and aggression that I saw last weekend.”

This Saturday sees the Tulips begin a run of matches that Rawlinson believes will determine their ambitions for the season.

They visit a Loughborough Dynamo side that are two places and two points above them in the table (3pm), knowing that a win would give them a sizeable cushion from the dreaded drop zone.

Rawlinson hopes that he won’t need to discuss relegation come the end of January, but knows that his team need to snap their lengthy losing streak.

He added: “In the context of our season, Saturday is a big game for us.

“We can’t afford to keep losing – and Loughborough are in and around us.

“I feel much happier after what I saw last week and the squad is OK, albeit not the finished article.

“Loughborough have a lot of experience at this level and operate with a budget that is similar – or perhaps even smaller – than ours.

“Between Saturday and the end of January, we have a lot of games against teams in a similar position to us.

“I think we’ll know a lot more about our season after those games. There are a lot of winnable games in that run, but we’ve not really been in any kind of form at home or away.”

Spalding are boosted by the returns of Jack Fixter and Lee Beeson for the Loughborough clash.
