Pressing for better road infrastructure for South Holland businesses

The fight for a better road infrastructure in South Holland will take a further step next month.

Richard Davies, Lincolnshire County Counci’s portfolio holder for highways and transport, will meet key businesses and organisations pressing to see action.
It follows a “fresh produce summit” with local MP and Transport Minister John Hayes in Spalding last Friday.

For the past 12 months Spalding and District Area Chamber of Commerce, along with local businesses, has been lobbying for improvement to the A16.

President Phil Scarlett said: “This route is vital to the sustainability of South Holland’s fresh produce businesses and we had hoped that John Hayes would have been able to leave us with a tangible legacy from his time as the Minister of Transport with an announcement that the A16 would be dualled.

“Friday’s meeting took our discussions onto the next step with the involvement of senior management from both produce and logistic companies and focused on the supply chain. They were extremely constructive and demonstrated a desire to all work together.”

Outcomes from the meeting were to continue lobbying for investment to improve the infrastructure (particularly the A16), support and become involved with training, re-brand the area from the “trades” description of agri-food to something everyone would understand both nationally and internationally and to attract high tech food businesses.
