Boss Chris Rawlinson has heaped praise on departing captain Adam Jackson after he decided to end his spell with Spalding United.
The left-back, who has been a regular fixture in the Tulips team since joining from South Holland neighbours Holbeach United more than four years ago, has decided to walk away from the club.
Rawlinson admits that the club captain had been struggling to keep up his usual high levels committed to the club in recent times, but insists that he wanted to keep the South Holland native.
However, he has accepted Jackson’s decision and wished him well for the future – even suggesting the door would remain open for him if he wanted to return.
A return to former club Holbeach has also been mooted, with the Tulips boss expecting it to happen.
“I can confirm that Adam has left the club,” said Rawlinson. “It was his decision to leave.
“Before my time here and especially during, he’s been a great player for Spalding United. All I can do is wish him well for the future and hope that everything works out for him both on and off the pitch.
“I do think his own personal workload has been quite high recently and he’s consequently struggled to be as committed as perhaps a club captain would want to be.
“I think he just wanted a change and I have to accept that. Should he change his mind, I’m sure we could leave the door open for him.
“I do think he’ll carry on playing and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him back in a Holbeach United shirt. But that’s none of my business now.
“As for the next captain, I do have a strong candidate in mind. But I’d have to speak to them first before making any kind of announcement. It’s important that we make the right choice.”
