Police say no reported dog thefts in South Holland

There have been no reported dog thefts in South Holland in recent months, Lincolnshire Police have said.

But they are urging owners to be vigilant with their pets with rises in incidents reported elsewhere in the country.

Several posts have appeared on social media with many including pictures of people and vehicles those posting have claimed to are potentially involved.

South Holland Police told Holbeach Parish Council last week that although there had been a rise in cases of dog thefts in other areas, there had been no reports of such incidents recently in South Holland.

A statement from the police to the meeting said: “That doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen here.

“Owners should be vigilant and report incidents to the police.

“People should also be mindful of posting pictures on social media.”

This week a Lincolnshire Police spokesman confirmed that was the case for South Holland.

The charity DogLost UK said that it had received reports of 495 attempts of dog thefts across the UK in the entirety of 2020, up from 172 in 2019.
