Police force looking to find new recruits

Lincolnshire police is looking for new recruits to join the ranks in a neighbourhood role.

There are up to 24 posts at the service for the police community support officers (PCSOs) offering a uniformed presence in the community while helping to tackle anti-social behaviour and offering reassurance.

PCSO Paul Coupland, of the Spalding Estates Team, said: “I have a wealth of experience behind me; 15 years in the military, three years on an oil rig and as a prison officer.  I take all this knowledge with me on a daily basis and use it in a wide range of different scenarios.

“The role of PCSO is not for everyone, I understand that, however it is a role that I fully enjoy.

“It is a varied role, and I know it’s a well-used phrase, ‘every day is different,’ but it really is.

“You will go to lots of meetings which will always be interesting, you will give the same talks, however, the questions will be different.

“You have great community contact and build relations with different bodies; council, schools and mental health staff to name but a few.

“You never know what the next call on your radio will be. It could be assistance at a road collision, to act as a scene guard or to deal with a shoplifter.

“The public expects to see us on patrol. You will be hard-pressed to find a career that gives you the variety that this role gives,” he said.

The closing date for applications is noon tomorrow (Friday).
