Player/boss Dunn won’t walk away from Pinchbeck United despite poor recent form

Defiant Pinchbeck United player/boss Ian Dunn insists that he has no plans to walk away from the club.

Dunn had been considering his future following pre-season budget cuts and the departure of number two Allan Ross, with the Knights struggling in the bottom two of the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division.

But the man who has steered Pinchbeck to back-to-back promotions and the UCL Division One title wants to stay at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field-based side.

“Obviously this season has been hard,” said Dunn. “A lot has been going on.

“But I’ve put my heart and soul into this club for much of the past five years and I don’t want to walk away and leave things as they are.

“I’m still confident that we can start to climb up the table. We’ve now got a core group of players that are committed to the cause and, if we add a few more, I can see things improving.

“We can’t be too hard on ourselves. The last month or so has seen us play big team after big team.

“The games against the teams in and around us will come soon. But we’ve not been thrashed by anybody, we’re always in games.”

This Saturday sees Leicester Nirvana visit the Sir Halley (3pm), in what is another tough test for the 19th-placed Knights.

Despite their poor run of form, Pinchbeck are only two points from safety with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck have had to forfeit their midweek game at Stotfold in the Hinchingbrooke Cup, with Dunn calling the fixture “logistically impossible” after protracted talks with their opponents, who wouldn’t agree to a weekend fixture.
