Pinchbeck United plan pays off big time

Chuffed Pinchbeck United player/boss Ian Dunn admitted that his side executed a plan to perfection as they picked up an impressive 3-1 opening day win at Netherton United on Saturday.

Debutants Ash Murrell (15) and Mark Thompson (20) fired Pinchbeck into an early 2-0 lead in the Peterborough Premier Division clash at The Grange, before skipper Ollie Maltby (30) smashed home a third.

Ashley Jackson pulled one back from the penalty spot for last year’s runners-up in the second period, but 2012 champions Pinchbeck held on.
While not wishing to get too carried away with the result, returning chief Dunn was impressed with what he saw.

“I would have been happy with a draw beforehand if I’m honest,” said the former Boston Town boss. “Netherton probably went into the game as favourites, but we had a plan to beat them.

“It was just something we were aware of having played against them in the past and it worked well.

“I thought we were superb in the first half and it really could have been 4-0 at half time.

“They came back at us in the second, but we soaked up the pressure well and didn’t really look in any trouble.

“We’ve got a decent side here experience-wise and they executed the plan we had well.

“It almost went too well – we’ve now set the bar quite high for the rest of the season.

“We’ll keep our feet firmly on the ground, though. It’s a long old season and nothing has changed as far as I’m concerned.”

Pinchbeck visit rivals Moulton Harrox tonight (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

Pinchbeck: Murphy, Thompson, Brooks (Melton 80), Harris, Lawe, A Murrell, B Murrell, Maltby, McDonnell, Price, Gosling (Dunn 65).
