PDFL round-up: Two wins from two for Harrox, Tydd hit back to stun Sutton in derby

Declan Earth grabbed the only goal as Moulton Harrox began the defence of their ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division title with a 1-0 win at Oakham United on Saturday.

In what proved to be a close contest, Harrox found themselves level at half-time following a goalless first 45 minutes.

But Kev Nottingham’s side – who included defender Jonny Clay in their starting line-up – held their nerve to grab the only goal when Earth struck after the break.

Also off to a winning start were Long Sutton Athletic, who defeated Peterborough North End Sports 2-1 at London Road.

Despite trailing 1-0 to a Tiago Nassunculo goal at half-time, the Magpies hit back to win 2-1 with Niall Burton and Sam Lilley the scorers.

Staying in the top flight, Holbeach United Reserves slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Uppingham Town.

Louis Steadman’s goal was in vain for Phil Barnes’ side.

Also beaten were Tydd, who suffered a 7-3 reverse at ICA Sports.

Ivaylo Raychev (2) and Nick Ainslie got Tydd’s consolation goals.

In Division One, Crowland Town kicked off their campaign with a fine 3-2 victory at Stilton United. Danny Firth, Harry Grigas and sub Ethan

Allen netted to settle a five-goal thriller in Crowland’s favour.

It wasn’t such a good start to the campaign for Spalding Town, though.

They were handed a 6-1 thumping at Wittering Harriers.

  • Tydd upset the odds to defeat rivals Long Sutton Athletic 2-0 in the PDFL Premier Division on Tuesday night.

A double from Raychev at London Road (11 and 76) settled the derby in their favour and handed Sutton their first defeat of the season.

Also victorious on Tuesday were champions Moulton Harrox, who made it two wins from as many games with a battling 3-1 success over

South Holland neighbours Holbeach United Reserves at Broad Lane.

John Smith scored in the first half to give the Tigers the lead, but the game changed when keeper Bradley Waters was sent off in the second half.

Billy King scored from the resulting free-kick, before Ash Coddington and Earth netted in the final ten minutes.
