Online jobs fair returns tomorrow

After a successful first event back in August, South Holland District Council and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) are holding another Virtual Jobs Fair on Friday October 23 to help residents and businesses in the District take their next career steps.

The first Jobs Fair took place on August 21, as a result of the cancellation of the usual physical event due to COVID-19.

The virtual fair proved to be a huge success, held across the Council’s Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages and promoting 77 different opportunities in the district over the course of three hours, as well as a range of helpful resources such as the government’s ‘Job Help’ campaign.

The event reached over 26,000 people across the three channels, with more than 400 taking the time to find out more information about the opportunities, and positive feedback from all of those involved.

With this in mind, the council is now looking to make them a more regular event, starting with this Friday from 11am – 2pm on SHDC’s social media channels. All the posts on the day can also be followed and shared using the hashtag #OpportunitySH.

Councillor Harry Drury, South Holland District Council’s portfolio holder for commercialisation and growth said: “It was great to see the positive impact that both the Council and DWP made with the first Virtual Jobs Fair back in August. The innovative work of everyone involved meant we could continue to support the District’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic – so I’m delighted that we’re carrying it on and doing the same again.

“The run up to Christmas is always a busy time for both residents and businesses, especially this year, so it seems like the perfect time for the Council to hold this event and help people to find the perfect fit for their opportunity or personal needs, and assisting businesses in finding the staff they need.

“I would encourage everyone to have a look and follow along on the day, share the opportunities and browse the wide variety of roles available across numerous sectors in the District. I hope it’ll provide a valuable resource for everybody in these difficult times that we’re in.”
