Nothing Crook about Pinchbeck performance against Spalding 3rd

The derby spoils went to Pinchbeck in South Lincs and Border League Division Two as they saw off Spalding Town 3rd by 49 runs on Saturday.

Having won the toss, Pinchbeck chose to bat first at Spalding Grammar School – and it looked a good call with openers Nick Crook (78) and Danny Jackson (39) putting on 59 for the first wicket before Rick Dale (2-33) got rid of the latter.

Dale also got rid of Lee Eyett for 19, while Richard Gilbert (2-43) removed Haydn Roberts for just seven.

Town legend Jimmy Clarke (4-26) then ripped through the middle order, leaving Crook looking a little stranded as he passed 50.

He took the score to 158-6 before being bowled by Gilbert – and although James Langford (15) hung around for a while, Pinchbeck closed on 180-9.

Wickets fell regularly in Spalding’s reply, with Eyett (5-37) the chief destroyer. One of his victims was opener Jordan Butcher, who starred with an impressive 56.

However, there was little support from the rest of the line-up, with Chris Green (18) and Ashley Bright (18) the only others to make decent knocks.

Spalding were eventually all out for 131 in the 39th over, with Crook (2-9), Langford (1-29), Andrew Beeston (1-19) and Jamie Frost (1-15) all among the wickets.

Pinchbeck climb up to fourth as a result of their 19-point haul, while Town pocketed six points to stay in mid-table.

  • Basement boys Moulton Harrox were on the receiving end of a heavy 223-run beating against leaders Boston in the Premier Division.

Batting first at Harrox Playing Field, Boston clubbed a whopping 351-7 as Benjamin Vella top scored with 127. James Cornwell (2-79) was the pick of the Moulton bowlers.

Matt Barnett made a super 60 in reply for Harrox, but Boston bowled his side out for 128 in 44 overs to claim maximum points.

Moulton – who picked up five bonus points – are now 15 points adrift at the bottom of the table after their sixth loss from seven games.
