Alan spins new venture in Spalding out of lifetime vinyl collection

One of the largest personal record collections in South Lincolnshire is on sale as part of a new business venture.

Uptown Vinyl Records has opened at Spalding Lifestyle Centre in Spalding Road, Pinchbeck.

Alan Barnsdale – a record collector for more than 30 years – has amassed around 40,000 vinyl singles and albums, as well as CDs.
And with vinyl enjoying a surge in popularity, the 57-year-old Spaldonian feels the time is right to start selling a few.

Alan helped with Uptown Records, a shop which his wife Sharon ran in Victoria Street in Spalding for a couple of years in the 1990s.
He said: “The new business has been something I’ve wanted to do for a little while and I’ve been trying to find somewhere suitable for it.
“Being in Spalding Lifestyle Centre will be ideal because I’ll be able to continue working on my internet business while overseeing the records sales.”

Alan started the venture a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed a good spell even while setting up the sales area with its racks.
He said: “I’m specialising in soul, funk and jazz, but a whole host of genres, including comedy, are covered.
“I think it will appeal to collectors, eBayers and jukebox owners too.”

He added: “I’ve got about 10,000 records in there at the moment from a collection of about 40,000.
“I’ve been buying records since I was small and at my time of life, I think now is the right time to start getting rid of a few.”

Uptown Vinyl Records is open Tuesdays to Saturdays 10am-5pm and Sundays 10am-4pm.
