New signing Jackson hands Holbeach United injury blow after breaking his ankle

Holbeach United’s pre-season plans have been hit by the news that new signing Adam Jackson has broken his ankle.

Left back Jackson, signed from Spalding United, injured himself in an off-the-field incident on Sunday.

It’s unclear how long the two-time ChromaSport UCL Premier Division winner will be sidelined for, but player/boss Tom Roberts is hoping that it won’t be for too long.

He said: “It’s a blow. Adam will have his ankle in a pot for a few weeks, but he’s told me that he’s hopeful of being back in weeks rather than months.

“We’ve got good options at left back with Matt Warfield and Nick Jackson both able to fill in, but Adam will be a big miss.”

That injury isn’t the only negative news Roberts has received this week.

Transfer target Dan Schiavi has opted to sign for UCL rivals Deeping Rangers over the Tigers, with the Holbeach boss disappointed not to land the former St Neots Town attacker.

However, Roberts is now hopeful that Andrew Tidswell will commit himself to the Carter’s Park club for next season.

Tidswell notched twice in Saturday’s 4-0 friendly win at Wisbech St Mary, with Josh Ford and Jordan Thomas the other scorers.

Work commitments are likley to limit Tidswell’s playing time next season, but it is hoped he’ll sign forms in the next week.

Roberts added: “We got a lot out of Saturday’s game. It was great to see the attackers getting among the goals and also nice to keep a clean sheet.

“With ‘Tids’ it’s a case of speaking to him over the next week. We’d like him to sign and we’ll see what happens in the next week or so.”

Holbeach were also 2-1 winners against PDFL Premier Division side Netherton United on Tuesday night. Stuart Eason put the Tigers ahead early in the second half at Carter’s Park, but Dean Giglio levelled before Ford fired the winner.

This Saturday sees the Tigers welcome Stamford and former boss Graham Drury to Carter’s Park for a friendly clash.

They then host South Holland foes Spalding United on Tuesday (7.45pm) ahead of their FA Cup clash and competitive opener against Swaffham Town on August 6.
