Nasty qualifying crash ends Clarke’s chances of a strong Donington Park showing

A nasty crash in qualifying wrecked Aaron Clarke’s hopes of a points finish at Donington Park last weekend.

Kirton rider Clarke was representing draperRACING at Donington Park in the latest round of the Superstock 600 – which was one of the support classes to the World Superbike Championship round on Sunday.

But he was unfortunate to crash during qualifying on Saturday, an incident which caused devastating damage to his Yamaha and curtailed his racing for the weekend.

Clarke had completed his free practice without incident and was running well in qualifying until he got crossways on at Craner Curves and lost control.

He went skittling across the grass with the bike somersaulting after him.

Luckily the bike stopped short of hitting him. He said: “I was sliding across the grass and saw the bike flying after me. I was worried it was going to land on top of me but it changed course at the last minute and missed me.

“Unfortunately the bike was destroyed in the crash and nothing to speak of was salvageable. So I had no choice but to withdraw from the race.

“To say I am gutted would be an understatement but hey ho, that’s racing. We will be back up and running in time for the next round where I hope I can bring a good result back to the team.”

The next round is at Knockhill on June 18.
