Plans to redevelop an area of parkland have been put on ‘pause’ by South Holland District Council just two months after it was announced that planning permission would be sought early this year.
The district council announced plans for the 23-acre Moulton Park last March which is set to include a children’s play area, a memorial garden and a spot for dog owners to let pets off their leads.
An accompanying six to ten affordable homes is proposed to be built on the land to make the park self-sustainable.
In November the council said it hoped to submit planning permission for the entire site early in 2021.
However Moulton resident John Grimwood launched a petition objecting to any kind of residential development on the park.
In two weeks since it was started, the petition has attracted more than 710 signatures.
Mr Grimwood said: “I would anticipate the fact the council has paused the plans is a good thing. I would hope they are going to reconsider any housing development on there.
“The fact that the majority of people who have signed the petition are local makes it a meaningful petition in my opinion.”
A South Holland District Council spokesman said: “Having spoken with residents and local representatives about the future of Moulton Park, we have made the decision to pause the project for now.
“In the meantime, we will continue to have dialogue to ensure that we can agree the best use for the land to meet the needs of the village and everyone involved in the project.”
