Motorsport preview: ‘Revelation’ Clarke gunning for runners-up position, G&S trio set for finale

Aaron Clarke is eyeing up second place finish in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship at this weekend’s season finale.

Currently third in the rider standings, the Kirton racer is just six points behind Joe Sheldon-Shaw in second place ahead of the trip to Brands Hatch.

The championship has already gone the way of Ryan Vickers, but there is everything to race for as a good result could see Draper Racing ace Clarke snatch the runner up spot away from his rival.

Clarke has been a revelation this year and although he hasn’t actually won a race he has recorded three second places at Snetterton, Brands Hatch and Cadwell on his way to the final round.

If luck is on his side, he could secure that elusive win this weekend.

Team-mate Tommy Philp was denied two points finishes at Assen last time out when he was forced to retire with a technical problem on the final lap.

But he did score points in the short sprint race on the Saturday.

He will be seeking two strong results to end his season in the British Supersport championship on a high note.

  • The three G&S Racing Kawasaki riders will contest the final round of their respective championships at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Tom Fisher will be racing in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship, while Ben Luxton and Milo Ward will be competing in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 class.

There is a doubt over Ward’s participation, however, as he has suffered a suspected broken thumb.

If confirmed, the injury will possibly force him to sit out the final round.

He had a hospital appointment on Wednesday (yesterday) when a decision was to be made as to whether he is fit to race.

If Ward is unable to race he will be bitterly disappointed, as a top result could move him up into the top three of the rider standings.

Fisher will be seeking a strong result on Sunday in the Stock 1000 class as will Luxton in the Stock 600.

Luxton is currently eighth in the rider standings and a good result could see him elevated up the table.

The pair were competing at Darley Moor on Sunday, where Fisher recorded a sixth and seventh and Luxton a 12th and 13th place in the annual Stars at Darley meeting.

Luxton was at a disadvantage as he was riding the 600cc bike, while the majority of riders were on the more powerful 1000cc machines.

With that in mind, he did very well to match the pace of the big bikes.
