Money and cards stolen in Holbeach distraction burglary

Two men pretending to be workmen entered a man’s house in Holbeach this morning and stole a large sum of money.

Lincolnshire Police said two white men attended a property in Holbeach this morning (Wednesday) and offered to do work on the victims roof.

The men quoted £375 and the victim went inside the property to get cash.

The men followed the victim into the home and one man followed the victim to where he kept his money.

While outside speaking to them, he noticed one man walk off.

When the victim went back inside his property he discovered a large sum of money had been taken and also bank cards.

The only description police have so far is that they wore woollen hats and had ‘Roof Line’ written on their tops.

They were aged 20-30 and had “foreign accents” stated the victim.

A police spokesman gave this warning: “Please, please do not allow cold callers to enter your property or agree for them to do work for you.

“Reputable tradespeople do not need to go door to door looking for work.

“Always get recommendations from a friend or relative.

“Ask for a written quote and never pay up until the job is completed to your satisfaction. You may feel that this message does not apply to you as you don’t live in or near Holbeach but these distraction burglars operate nationwide.”
