Missed chances prove crucial for Knights

Missed chances and mistakes at the back left Pinchbeck United cut adrift in the bottom two of the Uhlsport United Counties Premier Division.

Third from bottom Cogenhoe moved five points clear of the Knights after this game between two side who boasted just one win each going into the game.

It’s now 12 defeats in a row in all competitions for Pinchbeck, but they really should have ended that run on Saturday.

All of the goals came in the first half and after creating a few early openings in an end-to-end first 15 minutes, the Knights were caught on the counter on 17 minutes.

Dennis Nkrumah fired home from the edge of the box to give the home side a 1-0 lead.

Max Gee was at the heart of a host of the good work Pinchbeck carried out and he had a shot well saved by the home stopper.

But it was Tyrone Burton’s industry which brought them level as he beat three players on a marauding run down the right before producing a cross that defender Cichosz could only divert into his own net.

The lead lasted just eight minutes as Cogenhoe capitalised on hesitant defending with Nkrumah pouncing on a loose ball and feeding Alejandro Nwafor on the six yard box to make it 2-0.

On a heavy pitch, Pinchbeck had the better of the game for large parts of the second half but they could not find that equaliser.

On his debut following his signing from Huntingdon Town, Sean Roberts headed over from close range while Krashiqi had a fine effort well saved.

Gee placed a shot inches the wrong side of the post with the keeper beaten.

And in the 87th minute the same player was well placed, but shot wide.

Despite constant late pressure, Pinchbeck failed to find the equaliser and remain with just five points to their name heading into the festive fixtures.

Knights: Woolley, Worthington, Gilbert, Burton, Nuttell (Parsons 70), Ross, Gee, Roberts (Shores 92), Kacirek, Finlay (Dunn 70), Krashiqi.
