Majestic Majeed inspires Spalding Town to maximum points as Barnetts blast 214 partnership for Harrox

A virtuoso all-round display from Hafiz Majeed helped Spalding Town extend their lead at the top of South Lincs and Border League Premier Division to 20 points on Saturday.

Town (100-4) collected a maximum 20-point after beating Sleaford 2nd (98) by six wickets at the Memorial Field, with Pakistan ace Majeed taking 5-25 with the ball and making an unbeaten 60 with the bat.

It’s now six wins on the bounce from Rob Ambrose’s side.

Elsewhere in the top tier, out-of-sorts Long Sutton 1st slipped to their third successive Premier Division defeat.

It was basement boys Belton Park who did the damage this week, sentencing Sutton to a 70-run beating.

Dan Oldfield’s 5-38 helped bowl out Belton for 185, but Sutton could only manage 115 in reply.

In Division One, Matthew and Jack Barnett shared an incredible unbeaten stand of 214 to fire Moulton Harrox to a ten-wicket win over Welby Cavaliers.

Harrox looked to be up against it when Welby posted a competitive 212-7 at Harrox Field. But that score was absolutely blown away by the Barnett boys, with Matthew notching an incredible 115 not out and Jack blasting a stellar unbeaten 91.

Harrox are 43 points behind leaders Spalding Town 2nd after they made it seven wins out of seven against second-placed Freiston.

Skipper Mike Kearns saluted swing bowler Jamie Juckes as he helped  Town 2nd extend their winning run and move 31 points ahead of their opponents.

Juckes recorded figures of 6-15 – including three wickets in four balls – to help dismiss hosts Freiston for just 55 in reply to Town’s 126 batting first.

Down in Division Two, Pinchbeck climbed back into the top four with a hard-fought derby win over Spalding 3rd .

Having limited Town’s youthful 3rd team to 151-7 batting first at the Memorial Field, Pinchbeck (152-8) got over the line in the 43rd over with just two wickets to spare.

Plenty more cricket in Thursday’s Spalding and South Holland Voice.
