Long Sutton Sunday’s solid start to the Rutland League Division Three season continued with a comprehensive 67-run victory over Werrington.

After choosing to bat first amid scorching conditions at Paradise Field, Sutton racked up a fine 215-6.

Captain Matt Bull (84) was the star turn, passing 50 for the first time this season, while Dan Oldfield (50no) made his first senior half century.

Sutton never looked losing the game in the field as Rob Simpson (3-26) picked up a wicket with his first ball.

On a dry pitch, the regular spin of Jake Burton (1-27) proved handy – but it was the part-time tweaking of Tim Norris that stole the show.

Nearly two years to the day since taking legendary figures of 5-0 against the same opposition, he weighed in with 5-42 to help bowl Werrington out for 148 and secure maximum points for his side.

Norris said: “I only ever seem to bowl against this side and I keep taking wickets!

“I suppose when your luck’s in against a side, you need to capitalise on it – even if I did go for a few more than last time.”
