LETTERS – Another new road?

I’m finding it hard to believe Lincolnshire Highways are being allowed to build another road, the Spalding Western Relief Road, after the mess they made of the last one they built – the dreaded A16.

Does no one in the government road and transport departments realise they are not capable – look at The A16 and Radar Corner (B1166).

They are saying there’s no more money to carry out any work on the road and corner to make it safer for road users. Then you read they can magic up millions to build this new road – another mess.

I feel sorry for the residents who could lose their properties.

I do hope Sir John Hayes supports them fully and does not leave them in the lurch when the going gets tough.

  1. What I read here is another excuse for terrible driving standards.
I agree the road is not good enough, but only for todays standard of driving.
Thousands of pounds have had to be spent on cameras to ensure drivers obey the law.
Money that could have been spent on the jobs Mr Barfoot mentions.
To avoid having to obey the law drivers are now using the old road which has 40 and 50 mph limits but that means nothing to some drivers who speed by anyone doing 50 with brake application seen at the bends.
Still I suppose that means a lucrative trade for brake manufactures and fitters.
