LETTER: Amazed by council’s response

South Holland District Council never ceases to amaze.

I have tried to get something done about the speed vehicles travel down Broadgate, Sutton St James.

It is a 30mph road but everyone seems to travel around 50mph. Cars, motorbikes, school buses, heavy huge farm implements and lorries all thunder through Broadgate, rattling houses and putting cracks in walls.

When I complained to the appropriate department at South Holland I was asked if there had been any fatalities.

I told her a couple animals had been killed by speeding traffic but she announced that two, YES TWO, human fatalities had to occur before any speed bumps or speed cameras would be even considered!

Now it appears we have an animal rescue centre in Broadgate, Sutton St James. Not in an isolated area, in the village approximately 500 yards from the next house.

I am told at present, apart from horses and other “quiet animals” there are around 14 dogs but the council have given them permission for up to 18 on the proviso of a non-commercial purpose/no boarding of dogs and only for rescued, abandoned or neglected dogs.

Anyone living in this part of Sutton St James would have heard what 14 dogs sound like.

And this is still winter. If you like to potter about in your garden in the warmer months, gardening, barbequing, having a nice relaxing drink, I think those days are over. The noise 14 barking dogs create will (and does) carries for miles.

And last but not least, this has just knocked thousands of pounds off properties nearby.
