Holbeach United secure maiden victory of Jarvis’ reign

Goals from Jack Smith and Ben Brown fired Holbeach United a 2-1 UCL Premier Division win over Newport Pagnell Town on Saturday – and earned Darren Jarvis a first three-points as Tigers boss.

With new signing Charley Sanders starting, Holbeach went ahead inside 15 minutes when Smith converted a Lee Beeson corner that had been headed across goal by Brown.

That man Brown then doubled the Tigers’ money on the half hour as he buried a rebound with his head following Sanders’ initial shot.

Darryl Smith (56) pulled one back for Pagnell, but Holbeach held on to record a morale-boosting three points. Indeed, the victory is the first the Tigers have managed since Graham Drury’s last game in charge back on February 21, a run that spans five games.

There was some bad news for the Tigers, however, with Spalding United boss Pat Rayment revealing on Saturday that he’s agreed terms with key winger Beeson.

He’s expected to feature for the Tulips at Goole on Tuesday night.

It was a good day for South Holland sides in the ChromaSport Peterborough Premier Division too.

Pinchbeck United upset title-chasing Coates Athletic 2-1 at Knight Street, while Moulton Harrox romped to a fine 5-0 victory at Uppingham Town – results that keep both in the hunt for a top three finish.

At the bottom, Crowland Town moved out of the drop zone following a welcome 2-0 home triumph over Riverside. The Snowden Field success is Crowland’s first since December 20, some nine games ago.

Replacing them in the bottom two are Holbeach United Reserves after they went down 2-1 at Langtoft United.
