Holbeach United’s FA Vase bid set for a huge Huntingdon test

Graham Dury reckons that Holbeach United’s dream of winning the FA Vase will be pushed to the very limit on Saturday.

The Tigers welcome UCL Premier Division title rivals Huntingdon Town to Carter’s Park (3pm) for a second round tussle that is the stand-out fixture of the day.

Huntingdon won the corresponding league fixture 2-0 back on September 13, which is one of only three defeats suffered by the Tigers this term.

A cool £1,200 will go to the winners of the tie – and co-chief Drury admits that his side will have to work hard to seal a place in the last 32.

He said: “Make no mistake, Huntingdon are a very good side. They’re rightly up there challenging for the UCL title.

“I understand that they’re a bit of a bogey side for us, but things could have been different in the league game if we’d taken our chances.

“It’s a tough draw, but if we want to go on and do well in the Vase you need to beat the better sides.”

Holbeach hope to have Jake Gibson back from injury and could call upon St Neots Town loanee Ed Adjei.

Meanwhile, Holbeach have been drawn away at Grantham Town in the last eight of the Lincs FA Senior Trophy.

The Tigers, who actually thought that they’d reached the final after beating Deeping Rangers 3-2 on penalties on Tuesday night, will be the underdogs against Evo-Stik League Premier Division opposition.

We published that Holbeach had reached the final in Thursday’s Spalding and South Holland Voice too, so we apologise for the error (and for getting the fans’ hopes up).
