Holbeach United boss Hayes expecting tougher test from Chenecks in FA Cup clash

Seb Hayes is expecting ON Chenecks to give his Holbeach United side a tougher test in the Emirates FA Cup this Saturday (3pm).

The ChromaSport UCL Premier Division rivals clash at Carter’s Park for the second weekend on the spin, with the Tigers emerging as comfortable 3-0 winners last Saturday .

Holbeach chief Hayes expects Chenecks, who sat very deep in the league contest, to come out of their shell for the cup clash, but isn’t overly concerned with how they set up.

That’s because he’s plotting a victory that will bank the club £1,925 in prize money and give them the chance of drawing a big fish in the first round qualifying stage.

And the Tigers are well-placed to do so, having won all three of their competitive games without conceding a goal before Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw with Peterborough Northern Star.

“I’d expect them to arrive with a different gameplan,” said Hayes. “Maybe they’ll feel that it’s a cup game and a chance to come out of their shell.

“I felt that they sat back way too much on Saturday and gave us too much time on the ball.

“They only really created one chance in our box and didn’t offer anything as an attacking force. But I do think they’ll come back here and do better, so we need to be prepared for that.

“I’m confident in our ability to beat any side from our level at home.

“I do feel that we need to be more clinical and have more to give, but I’m pleased with the start.

“If we can come through this week with the unbeaten start intact, I’ll be very happy.

“The FA Cup is all about the money for clubs like Holbeach. Hopefully we can get through and book a home game against a time from the highest level.

“That will give us more exposure and get more money into the club – a bit like the Worcester game a few years ago.”

Should the Tigers come through the Star clash unscathed, Hayes will have a full squad of 16 to choose from.

That won’t include winger George Asplin, however. Having only been able to attend a couple of Holbeach’s 13 pre-season training sessions, his availability has led the Holbeach boss to reluctantly release a player he rates very highly.

Meanwhile, Holbeach have been drawn away at Boston Town in the Lincs FA Senior Trophy on September 12.
