Work is well under way on a new purpose-built cafe in the grounds of Capricorn Cottages.
The new Hive Cafe will be officially opened later this month by Coun Rodney Grocock, chairman of South Holland District Council.
The 34-bed residential home for people with learning disabilities is providing the cafe for residents so they can enjoy a drink with their friends away from the main buildings. The cafe will also offer the chance for neighbours to get to know residents over a hot drink.
“We are hoping that the coffee shop will encourage residents who don’t like to go outside of the home, to venture a little further,” said home manager Christine Jones.
“Residents are very excited at the prospect of having a cafe close by and we asked them what colour they would like to paint it, and what they would like to call it. The Hive is now being painted a lavender purple,” said Christine.
“It will be open every day to our residents, families and staff and to our neighbours and others on Wednesday mornings from 10am to noon. Residents will be baking cupcakes for morning coffee,” she added.
One resident has already asked to manage The Hive and several would like to work there.
“This is a tremendous step forward for Capricorn Cottage and it is important to us that we continue to concentrate our focus on providing a caring service that has the residents at the heart of it,” she added.
Residents have been watching work progress on the cabin.
