Help for hospital treating teenager

Fundraisers are helping the children’s department of a Norfolk hospital where a Holbeach teenager is being treated for a debilitating condition.

Asher Denman (14) was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease two years ago and has never been in remission.

There are some days he has to drag himself to school after little sleep, but his family say he doesn’t let the condition get him down.

He has been able to present a cheque for £226.60 to the children’s department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital which is treating him, thanks to a game of bingo.

He was in the hospital earlier this year for treatment of the condition which is an inflammatory bowel disease.

“He has not been in remission since he was diagnosed and some days he drags himself to school having had little sleep,” said his dad Paul.
Asher attends Holbeach Academy and has just returned after the summer break.

“He has very low haemoglobin which is part of the Crohn’s so he gets very tired some days,” said Mr Denman.

“But he misses as little school as he can, even though he finds it incredibly difficult”.

A bingo was organised by Phyllis Newton, who recently married Mr Denman’s father-in-law, to raise money in Asher’s name.

The event was at Whaplode Village Hall and proved popular.

Another fundraising bingo, for a different charity takes place on September 21 with doors opening at 6pm.
