Having a ball for charities

A group of friends are looking to raise thousands for a special needs school and Diabetics UK this year.

The collective, who are calling themselves the Snowflake Committee, have met through Weightwatchers and in the past two years have raised money for several charities.

This year they’re helping charity Diabetics UK and also the Friends of Garth School (FOGS) who are looking to equip their planned sensory room for the special needs school.

As in previous years, a Snowflake Ball will take place on November 24 and the group are organising other events including a sponsored walk in July.

Helen Webster of the Snowflake Committee, said: “We just wanted to give something back to the community by putting on events.”

The group announced they’re fundraising for the year on a visit to the Garth School in Spalding where Helen’s colleague Hayley White’s daughter Karla attends.

Head of school Claire Moore, said: “Fundraising to create a sensory room started two years ago and we’re now looking to raise funds to equip it.

“We’re always looking to improve the learning opportunities for children with very complex needs and learning difficulties.

“We’re absolutely delighted and overwhelmed to be chosen to receive a share of funds raising through the year and we are very grateful.”
