Harrox face champions in opening round

Moulton Harrox face a tough test in the first round of the Peterborough League President’s Shield.

Harrox have been handed an away tie at current Premier Division champions Peterborough Sports Reserves in the opening round on September 9.

Moulton Harrox Reserves start the defence of their Chairman’s Championship Shield with a tie away at Peterborough Polonia.
Crowland, who have been relegated to Division One, face a trip to Uppingham Town who also lost their Premier Division place last season.

Promoted Tydd St Mary will travel to Whittlesey Athletic in the same competition while Long Sutton – who have signed former Holbeach striker Tom Gosling – will host Glinton & Northborough.

There are two derby duels in the League Shield with Tydd St Mary Reserves hosting Leverington Reserves and Long Sutton’s second string entertaining the returning Pinchbeck Reserves who have been placed in Division Five.

Holbeach United A – newly-promoted to Division Four – have been drawn at home to Premiair Reserves while new boys Spalding United A have a bye.

The cup draws took place at the Peterborough League’s annual meeting where several South Holland clubs collected accolades.

Moulton Harrox assistant boss Paul Crowson received an award for services to football while Crowland Town’s Kevin Fletcher was named Premier Division assistant referee of the year.

Moulton also received an award for their hospitality to referees.

Pinchbeck United’s maiden venture into the United Counties League KO Cup will see them face fellow newcomers St Andrews in the opening round.

The Leicestershire side have switched from the Midland League and this season will be under the management of former Holbeach striker Jamie Clarke.

Holbeach join the competition in the next round and await the winners of Sleaford Town’s clash with Melton Town.

Spalding Harriers are on the look out for new players ahead of the coming season.

Harriers, who play in the Boston and District Saturday League, are inviting all players aged 16 and above to join them for pre-season training at Monkshouse Lane on Wednesday nights (7pm).

Players of all abilities and positions will be welcomed, but the team are actively seeking a consistent goalkeeper.
