G&S Racing Kawasaki trio all impress at Oulton but Toms takes best result

The three G&S Racing Kawasaki riders all had two races to contest at Oulton Park over the weekend.

Milo Ward rode to 16th and 19th places in the Pirelli Superstock 1000 races, while Kevin Keys and TJ Toms campaigned the Superstock 600 rounds resulting in a brace of fifth places for Toms and an eighth and a DNF for Keyes.

Ward is coming on in leaps and bounds and has made some significant progress over the last few rounds. Over the weekend he showed he is capable of running within a point scoring position.

He qualified for an eighth row start to both races and in race one he made it through to a strong 19th position.

In race two he worked his way through to 15th and was looking to score a championship point, but was denied on the final lap when Rob McNealy powered past on the run to the flag with Ward crossing the line just two tenths away in 16th place.

Toms put in two solid performances in the stock 600 class. After qualifying for a fourth row start to the first race, he powered through the pack to take up fifth on lap nine of 12 and maintained the position to the flag.

His lap time from the first race earned him a front row start to race two but he didn’t get the best of starts and dropped back to sixth on the first lap.

But he persevered and made his way back up to fifth place on lap eight and not far away from the leading four.

He crossed the finish line in fifth place to pick up a further 11 points bringing his total haul of the weekend to 22 and placing him sixth in the overall rider standings.

Keyes was nursing an injury to his hand which he picked up in the crash at Cadwell Park last time out.

But he shrugged it off and completed his qualifying in fourth place for a second row start to the first race. He got a cracking start to take the lead from the off and was swapping places with Caolan Irwin over the first few laps.

The action was fast and the front group very competitive, all challenging for the race lead. In the heat of the battle Keyes lost the front and slid off at Hizzy’s chicane, his race over.

Despite aggravating his previous injury, Keyes went out in race two but the injury had taken its toll on him and he was only able to complete the race in eighth place, a brave effort in the circumstances and eight more points to add to his total.

The next round is at Donington Park on October 4-6.
