The two Wyberton-based G&S Racing Kawasaki Superstock 1000 riders were unable to register any points at Knockhill over the weekend.
Sammy Coventry was 18th in race one at the Scottish track and was running inside the points in the second encounter before crashing on lap 15, while Tom Fisher completed the races in 20th and 18th.
Fisher began his first race from the eighth row and was soon in the thick of the action moving through the field to 22nd at the half way stage of the 18 lap affair. He continued to make progress, but
Knockhill is a short and technical circuit with very little opportunity to make an overtaking move. However, he persisted and was able to complete his race in 20th position.
Starting the second race from a ninth row grid position, Fisher once again made a good start, moving straight into 23rd position.
He was able to get up as far as 17th on lap 21 of 24. But one lap later Leon Jeacock pushed him back a place and Fisher completed the race in 18th place.
Meanwhile, Coventry was anticipating a good result from a circuit he enjoys. But, after completing his qualifying in 21st place, he began the first race from the seventh row. It was always going to be a difficult task to elevate himself up into a point scoring position, but he got his head down and pushed hard to 17th on lap 14.
But he didn’t reckon on Adam Jenkinson catching him on the final lap and he finished in 18th place.
Determined to get up into the points, Coventry got a good start to the second event from the seventh row and was up into 15th place at the half way stage of the 24 lapper.
But three laps later his race was over when he lost the front and crashed on lap 15 while closing on 14th.
Team manager Mark Fisher said: “It was always going to be difficult for us at Knockhill with Tom not riding last year due to injury and Kevin (Van Leuven) crashing in the early stages of the race.
“So it was an uphill battle because we had no date for setup. The track had no grip due to a huge oil spillage in another solo class and the track had to be washed, which unfortunately removed the rubber from the surface making it very slippery.
“But on the positive side Tom and Sammy were only just over a second away from pole position although, with it being such a highly competitive class, that put them a fair way down the grid.
“Because of the tight structure of the track it was hard to get a perfect setting and to make steps forward but both riders did well although Sammy was unfortunate to crash while chasing 14th place.”
The next round is at Snetterton over the weekend of June 30/July 2.
