Grant funding for two projects

Two projects in South Holland have been awarded grants totalling £16,500.
Spalding’s St Mary and St Nicolas Church has been awarded £10,500 to research integration with foreign nationals.
The town has been identified as one of the least integrated places in England.
The Parochial Church Council wants to employ people to research the barriers to integration and to identify ways to overcome them.
The part-time work (about 275 hours between September this year and August 2017) will be liaising with Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian residents. Pay will be £7.90 per hour. Funding for the Community Connectors programme has come from the Bishop of Lincoln’s Social Justice Fund.
The Rev John Bennett said: “I am delighted that with this award our church can help people in our community to connect better with one another, to build a stronger sense that Spalding is home to everyone who has settled here and to realise that we all have a stake in making it a good place to live with the facilities that we and our families need.”

Meanwhile, Long Sutton’s Market House Community Centre has received a £6,000 community development grant from Lincolnshire County Council and South Holland District Council.
It will go towards the cost of replacing the wagon arch door at the rear of the building in the same style and colour, but in aluminium and with double glazing.
Jeanne Sibley, the development officer and centre manager, explained: “This will really improve the comfort for those using the the large attractive Corn Exchange room. It will cut out draughts and make the door easier to open by both users and volunteers.”
