Goals galore on record breaking night of six-a-side action

An amazing average of 6.4 goals per game – or one every 5.6 minutes – made it a record-breaking night of action on The Spalding and South Holland Voice 6-a-side league on Monday.

The first game in Division One saw newbies the Future FC put to the sword by a rampant Brennan’s Sports side who welcomed the boost to their goal difference with a 15-1 victory as they put on an exhibition of stylish passing and deft finishing.

Brennan’s are up to third after this big win as they return to a more familiar league position following a poor mid-season. Daniel Bergin was their man of the match (MOTM).

You’ve Got No Fans then reversed a 2-0 deficit to beat Mirror Signal Malouda 4-2, despite the best efforts of keeper Ben Weatherill, who was in inspired form in between the sticks.

The win puts YGNF up to sixth and keeps MSM in ninth.

Next up, Pro Ballers faced the division’s only points match. They ‘paid and played’ in their friendly against Balotellitubbies which they won 6-3. However, as per the points game rules they are credited with a 5-0 walkover for the sake of the league.

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck United were the latest team to succumb to the Polishborough juggernaught as they won 10-0 in another of the high-scoring fixtures.

Polishborough have now scored an incredible 91 goals this season and are in control of the top tier with five games to play. Krzysiek Goldyn picked up the MOTM in this one.

The next game was closer, as Univeg Team just squeezed past Notinmymums Forest in the most entertaining tie of the night. Both sides threw caution to the breeze with an end-to-end game that most people involved would agree should have finished with a higher scoreline. Ricardo Silva was MOTM.

Despite the win, Univeg drop to fourth in the table.

The final game in the top tier was a battle of the promoted sides as Old Boy Coaches, runners-up in Division Two last season, taking on reigning division two champions Posh Old Boys.

Both sides have struggled this season and this tie took on importance of relegation. Old Boy Coaches doing enough to stroll to a 4-0 win and dump Posh Old Boys into the drop zone on goal difference.

Trevor Laud was back amongst the action as MOTM.

Division Two started with Goaldiggers beating Mail Carters 2-1. Again, they had the heroics of MOTM Tyler Wright to thank as his performance kept the Diggers sixth, but looking to finish strongly.

Sarah’s Boys then beat Tekkerslovakia 4-1 to jump into third spot.

The surprise outfit now sit just three points off a promotion place as they lead the hunting pack.

Ash Graham picked up his sixth MOTM award in this one.

Game three saw Hardly Athletic score their first goal.

However, the only slight problem was that they conceded 13 against Le Saux Solid Crew. Hardly struggled with the pace and talent of Le Saux, with usual Harry Ledger and MOTM Jordan Graham on fine form.

The win keeps both sides fifth and 12th respectively.

Elsewhere, Evolution kept their promotion and even title hopes alive after squeezing past The TBME 1-0 in the lowest scoring game of the division. Adam Brickles did enough to get the recognition for MOTM in a game which was tight from start to finish.

Evolution open a three-point gap over third place with this win and dump The TBME into fourth.

Division Two’s penultimate match saw BK’s Athletic return from their grey patch of form with a 5-0 thumping of struggling Balotellitubbies.

The BK’s boys, and MOTM Dan Dougill in particular, were comfortable and content as they choked the Tubbies’ attacking options and took their chances to good effect.

BK’s stay seventh and Balo are tenth after this result.

The final game of the night saw second tier leaders Simple FC come from 2-2 to win 5-2 against Dynamo Kiev.

A stuttering start from Simple against the in-form Kiev found them level-pegging with ten minutes to go, but an upturn in class from Jack Issitt and MOTM Leigh Boekestijn saw them home safely as they close on promotion.
